Part 3

We read where very expensive ointment of spikenard was used to anoint Jesus' feet. According to our previous calculation of 1 penny, which is equivalent to around R100, the oil was worth around R30 000!!! Judas protested for the wrong reasons, saying it was wasteful. Jesus allowed Mary to continue, as money was less important to her, but expressing her love for Him was of far greater value. This is definitely not the conduct of a poor Jesus that we see here!

John 12:3 "Then took Mary a pound of ointment of spikenard, very costly, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair: and the house was filled with the odour of the ointment.

5: Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred pence, and given to the poor?"

Does this mean that Jesus was careless and wasteful with money entrusted to Him? Definitely not! At the multiplication of the loaves we read that He ordered the disciples to pick up the remaining bread so that there would not be waste.

Jesus' clothes were also of the highest quality, and even the soldiers who nailed Him to the cross, cast lots to own them.

John 19:23 "Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took his garments, and made four parts, to every soldier a part; and also his coat: now the coat was without seam, woven from the top throughout.

2:4 They said therefore among themselves, Let us not rend it, but cast lots for it, whose it shall be: that the scripture might be fulfilled, which saith, They parted my raiment among them, and for my vesture they did cast lots."

Traditions of people

It is not the aim of this booklet to focus on the negative, but before we get to the principles of financial prosperity, it is necessary to address the traditions and laws of people.

Mark 7:7 "Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.

13: Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye."

In the Old Testament sin separated man from God. Sin resulted in punishment, but, because of His love, He always reminded man of the choice he had, namely: To experience the curse (punishment), which is automatically part of the fallen world due to sin, or the blessing, which is His will for us. Man has the choice, to either experience curse or blessing.

Deuteronomy 11:26 "Behold, I set before you this day a blessing and a curse;

27: A blessing, if ye obey the command-ments of the Lord your God, which I command you this day:

28: And a curse, if ye will not obey the commandments of the Lord your God, but turn aside out of the way which I command you this day, to go after other Gods, which ye have not known."

The sin (curse) created a dividing wall between God and man, placing man in an unworthy position: A position of punishment.

Ephesians 2:13 "But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.

14: For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us;"

Isaiah 59:1 "Behold, the Lord's hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear:

2: But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear."

Jesus Christ came in order to carry our sins on the cross and to break down the wall of separation from God.

Mankind has been completely restored to total worthiness before God the Father. What is so precious about the cross, is that Jesus became everything negative in you and I, in order that we could be free and enjoy all that is good from God's hand!

2 Corinthians 5:21 "For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteous-ness of God in him."

Jesus carried the curse in our place, so that only the blessings would be our inheritance in Him.

Galatians 3:13 "Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:"

Therefore God no longer punishes us after the cross of Jesus, as Jesus carried the full punishment, so that we might have total peace.

Isaiah 53:5 "But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed."

There remains a final punishment one day, at the end of the world, for those who reject Jesus. Take note, the negative things are still present, because we live in a fallen and imperfect world. However, the negative does not have to control our lives, as this is not God's plan for us. Jesus has already obtained the victory over it!

John 16:33 "These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world."

Through ignorance concerning the truth, many people still live under and with the curses. Poverty is part of the curse which Jesus died for. The blessings of Deut. 28 belong to us, but we have to accept them in and by faith, and then we shall experience them.

Deuteronomy 28:1 "And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the Lord thy God, to observe and to do all his command-ments which I command thee this day, that the Lord thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth:

2: And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the Lord thy God.

3: Blessed shalt thou be in the city, and blessed shalt thou be in the field.

4: Blessed shall be the fruit of thy body, and the fruit of thy ground, and the fruit of thy cattle, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep.

5: Blessed shall be thy basket and thy store.

6: Blessed shalt thou be when thou comest in, and blessed shalt thou be when thou goest out.

7: The Lord shall cause thine enemies that rise up against thee to be smitten before thy face: they shall come out against thee one way, and flee before thee seven ways.

8: The Lord shall command the blessing upon thee in thy storehouses, and in all that thou settest thine hand unto; and he shall bless thee in the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.

9: The Lord shall establish thee an holy people unto himself, as he hath sworn unto thee, if thou shalt keep the commandments of the Lord thy God, and walk in his ways.

10: And all people of the earth shall see that thou art called by the name of Lord; and they shall be afraid of thee.

11: And the Lord shall make thee plenteous in goods, in the fruit of thy body, and in the fruit of thy cattle, and in the fruit of thy ground, in the land which the Lord sware unto thy fathers to give thee.

12: The Lord shall open unto thee his good treasure, the heaven to give the rain unto thy land in his season, and to bless all the work of thine hand: and thou shalt lend unto many nations, and thou shalt not borrow.

13: And the Lord shall make thee the head, and not the tail; and thou shalt be above only, and thou shalt not be beneath; if that thou hearken unto the commandments of the Lord thy God, which I command thee this day, to observe and to do them:

14: And thou shalt not go aside from any of the words which I command thee this day, to the right hand, or to the left, to go after other gods to serve them."

Read vs 12 again: It will not be necessary for you to borrow money, no hire purchase, no mortgage, no over drawn accounts or debt! You will lend to others. Do you believe it and are you experiencing it yet? It is your inheritance in God!

NB! God loves man and wants to reach everyone with His love, grace and goodness. God wants to richly bless us, so that we can be a blessing to the world around us. It is God's heartfelt desire that it should go well with us, so that we can carry the Good News of His love to a hungry and needy world.

Philippians 4:19 "But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus."
