Step 7

Every time we pray our horizon is altered, our attitude to things is altered, not sometimes but every time, and the amazing thing is that we don't pray more.

You pray God's Word over your own life and over your spouse, in so doing; you speak and release into you and your spouses life the promises that God has already spoken. You release the
power of Scripture

John 1:1

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

God has always spoken through dreams and visions, and He specifically said that they would come to those upon whom the Holy Spirit is poured out (Acts 2:1-4, 17).

Jesus demonstrated the ability of living out of constant contact with God, declaring that He did nothing on His own initiative, but only what He saw the Father doing, and heard the Father saying (Jn. 5:19,20,30).

What an incredible way to live!

Is it possible for you to live out of divine initiative as Jesus did? Yes! Fix your eyes upon Jesus. The veil has been torn, giving access into the immediate presence of God, and He calls you to draw near (Lk. 23:45; Heb. l0: 19-22). “I pray that the eyes of your heart will be enlightened….”

The Scriptures record many examples of individual’s prayers and God’s replies (e.g. the Psalms, many of the prophets, Revelation).

• By praying, you honour believing Him and responding with action to His truths. Such action is an essential element to a life of faith. And remember, God loves faith!

• In addition, you strengthen your own life by overwriting negative scripts that have driven your life for years. What a simple antidote to destructive negativity!

• Proclaiming scripture is a natural response to understanding what God has promised you through Jesus Christ.

• Prayer is part of the exercise of your royal priesthood, exercising priesthood on your own behalf and that of family, friends, and all that concerns you. As you exercise this priesthood in prayer, you grow in Kingdom authority and dominion. This is not arrogance or presumption, but confidence in who God has called you to be and to do.

• Now you come to a place of synergy: agreement with God. You come to that place, you and I, where His Word will not return to Him void.

(Is 55:10-11) We begin to sense the power of Heaven released in our lives.

Next I’m going to show you examples how you can use the word of God and transform it into a mighty prayer bombs.

Take any scripture and personalized it by putting your spouse name in the gaps and praying it out loud. For example:

"I pray that ____ was taught, with regard to ____ former way of life, to put off their old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of their minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness . . . Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of their mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. I pray that ____ will get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. I pray that ____ will be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave us." Ephesians 4:22-24,29-32

"Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another (spouse and other person). Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity." Colossians 3:12-14

"Wives, ____ submit to your husbands, ____ as is fitting in the Lord. Husbands, ____ love your wives ____ and do not be harsh with them. Children, ____ obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord." Colossians 3:18-20

"Lord, I worship and praise You that God does speak --now one way, now another—though man may not perceive it. In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls on ____ (spouse's name) as they slumber in their beds, He may speak in ____ ears and terrify them with warnings, to turn ____ from wrongdoing and keep him from pride, to preserve his soul from the pit, his life from perishing by the sword." I thank You that ____ will pray to God and finds favor with Him, ____ sees God's face and shouts for joy; ____ is restored by God to ____ righteous state. Then ____ will come to men and say, I sinned, and perverted what was right, but I did not get what I deserved. God redeemed my soul from going down to the pit, and ____ will live to enjoy the light." Job 33:14-18,26-28

"Lord, I pray that You will sprinkle clean water on ____, and ____ will be clean; You will cleanse ____ from all their impurities and from all their idols. You will give ____ a new heart and put a new spirit in ____; I will remove from ____ their heart of stone and give them a heart of flesh...Then the nations around you that remain will know that I the LORD have rebuilt what was destroyed and have replanted what was desolate. I the LORD have spoken, and I will do it." Ezekiel 36:25-26,36

"Therefore, ____ I will judge you, each one according to his ways, declares the Sovereign Lord, Repent! ____, Turn away from all your offenses; then sin will not be your downfall. Rid yourselves of all the offenses you have committed, and get a new heart and a new spirit . . . For I take no pleasure in the death of anyone, declares the Sovereign Lord. ____ Repent and live!" Ezekiel 18:30-32

"Lord, I praise you that have called me into righteousness; I will take hold of Your hand. Thank You that You are a covenant for the people and a light for the Gentiles, to open ____ eyes that are blind, and to free ____ who is a captive from their prison and to release them from the dungeon where they sit in darkness." Isaiah 42:6-7

This is just some examples to give you a kick start, the more time you spend with God and His word , the more He will train you and equip you to pray more sufficient. What you basically are doing is implanting Gods truths into them and with time Gods truths will grow and make them into the daughter or son of God they were destined to be. The most loving thing you can do for your spouse is praying for them and offering your free time bringing them to the Lords feet daily.

He said,  “My work was to plant the seed in your hearts, and Apollos’ work was to water it, but it was God, not we, who made the garden grow in your hearts.” 1 Cor. 3:6 TLB

Summary of praying:

1. Adopt a Christ-like attitude toward the person for whom you are praying for. Realize God's desire to see people repent and be free. Ask God to show you any wrong attitudes or motives which remain in you. Pray for God's love to overcome your prejudice and judgmental attitudes.

2. Ask God to show you the sinful areas in a person's life that need to be addressed. Make a list of these sins so that you may intercede daily concerning them. Bringing them to God daily is necessary because people renew their sins daily.

3. Address every act of sin that occurs around you immediately. This can be done by immediately praying silently or going into another room for privacy.

4. Use your believer's authority in Christ. Always learn to act on the basis of faith, because you will not always see a reaction in the natural. If Christians only realized what often happens when they pray or exercise spiritual authority, they would truly be amazed.

5. Test the spirits (1 John 4:1). Do not always assume that your problems are always natural ones, or always the enemy. Pray for spiritual discernment. It is possible to test situations by confessing any sin connection and then exercising spiritual authority against any demonic activity associated with the problem. You will be surprised in the number of times your situation will change as a result.

If you are willing to step out in faith and explore this biblical principle of "intercessory prayer for repentance" you will soon realize it is possible through God's grace and power to pull down strongholds that the enemy has built around your spouse’s heart. But you will have to learn to be patient, persevering and stand in faith on God's promises.
